My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves at Cabs. Almost a little too much hehe ;) Bartender was awesome, he was knowledgeable of the beers, wines and scotches. The Old Fashion he made me was just like I make them at home, which is the best in my opinion lol. So props to Alex(?) on his hospitality. While enjoying drinks the owner Lisa inquired about our recent home purchase mentioned in the reservation, and welcomed us to Cabs as well as Glen Ellyn. Our server, I believe her name was Katie?, was absolutely fantastic! Cute, outgoing, knowledgeable of the dishes and overall very patient. She checked in on us accordingly, but wasn't pushy, and didn't hesitate to recommend her favs when we (I) was indecisive. I'm glad I went with her recommendation of the grilled seafood combination as it was delicious. Did I mention she was cute? After our meal and drinks, the Chef (owner/manager's husband) Luis chatted us up for a few mins and also welcomed us to town. This is a family run business. The entire staff is welcoming, accommodating, and generally very laid back. It's rare to find restaurants like this in the Chicagoland area. We felt as though we were in a quaint upscale restaurant in Wisconsin or something. I got the vibe that everyone generally enjoyed working there, which is somewhat rare. I wish them the best and look forward to many more visits. I really look fwd to hearing some live music some time. My only criticism is their online calendar doesn't show anything but the website says most Friday's and Saturdays?

Cabs is a solid bistro. Wait staff and hostess were friendly. We ordered cocktails which caused the server to be completely perplexed. (A Negroni and a Boulevardier). The bartender made both exceptionally well. One complaint - we were charged an additional $3 for a martini 'up'. I've not seen that before. Seems odd. The restaurant is a bit loud and not conducive to intimate conversation. Ambiance is bright and airy, even at night. Minimalistic decorating, for sure. Food was good, but nothing to rave about. Solidly executed. We ate steaks, fish, and grilled veggies in our party of four. The price for food was exactly what one would expect from a restaurant in the western suburbs. We'd go back, but we'd not go out of our way to go back.

I came into Cab's from an invitation from a friend who claimed that they had the best martinis around! Well when we got there we asked about the martini list and "Sheila" our bartender never gave us one. When we mentioned how our friends received a strawberry filritini and we didn't see that on the list,, she responded that they no longer make that one anymore because it was too much work. She said the old bartender who created it no longer works there and that they didn't have the liquor anymore....Seriously, that is ridiculous. We were not impressed with the food or the service. I was there for the first time and noticed the owner drinking several glasses of wine in the service well instead of introducing herself to us..... BTW, what is up with all of the horrible yellow paint everywhere and horrible 1980's light fixtures????? This place needs a serious makeover. I will not be back.

I had looked forward to dining at Cab's for quite some time and finally had the opportunity last night. It was disappointing. I'm not going to belabor the point and wax eloquent but here are the reasons: 1) We made on-line reservations, had an e-mail confirmation but they had no record. Not a big deal, the staff rolled with it and accommodated our party of six. 2) Took 15 minutes to get our first round of drinks. 3) Took 50 minutes to receive our entrees after finishing our apps. 4) I found the grilled brie lacked flavor and there was no apricot sauce or almonds that I could detect. 5) I ordered the grilled Scottish Salmon ($24) that came with grilled asparagus, portobello and spinach on a bed of rice. Although the salmon was good it was just warm, not hot, and all of the accompaniments were colder in temperature as well. The asparagus was cold. I mentioned to the server that my meal was barely warm and obviously sat a while. Here response, "I'm sorry. Actually, it didn't sit but I'm happy to have it put under the warmer for a couple of minutes." I said I didn't want to wait a half hour to get my entree back. 6) We wrap up our meal and she asks if anyone wants dessert. Everyone was full and declined. When it comes time for the check, she says she was sorry that my meal was cold and that the house would like to buy us dessert. Hmmm, nice gesture but we already stated that we were full. 7) Finally, the owner/manager who was walking around hugging & kissing the regulars never came by to ask how our meal was. She was too busy schmoozing everyone else. So be it, but a quick visit to our table to see why one of your diners was disappointed would have resulted in a nice "save". Poor service, cold food and a questionable price-to-value ratio means I probably won't be back anytime soon.

I've never been here, but I bought my parents a gift card from here one time on a whim because my parents are wine fans, and I thought they might enjoy it. Didn't know anything else about the place. My experience buying the gift card was pleasant, and the woman who sold it to me was very helpful. So i can't vouch for the food, but ever since I got them that gift card, my parents come back for their anniversary every year. It must be good.

I was soooo excited to dine here for my birthday. The menu sounded absolutely amazing and I was hoping to find something closer to home to enjoy. Out of the 5 appetizers, one main meal and two desserts we ordered, I would only consider one of the desserts to be absolutely amazing. My boyfriend even commented on how he would rather have eaten my cooking that night. If I had to sum up the food experience in one word...tasteless. There was no taste to anything we ate that night. The chicken from the main meal was rubbery and the cheese over the top might as well have not been there. We both had wine flights, both red and white wine. Not impressed with that either.

Cute little place. Food and drinks weren't anything better than I could make at home but maybe we should try the dinner menu and not just desserts.

Fabulous food with a unique twist. The owner sat us and was so friendly and inviting. I've been here twice. A burger that was tasting and hardy and the penlla (spelling) was so filled with flavor and a unique blend of chicken and sea food. They happily obliged my order request for no scallops. They offer some terrific GF options!! I would not hesitate to return.

You really can't go wrong with food here. Chef Luis Allyon is on top of everything and his kitchen staff have been with him for years. My only suggestion this visit is to the bartender. Please chill the martini glasses. It really does make a difference. Also, olives were excellent but blue cheese was blah!

We came here several times, ordering the same thing, during the summer of 2013. The food was pretty good, especially the amount you got on the Happy Hour Tapas specials. The crab cakes were surprisingly large, the paella was oversalted the first time so we asked them the next time to go light on the salt - the portion was quite large (as paellas are supposed to be), drinks were good. This month was the first time I decided to order carryout. When I called in, the person who answered wasn't the friendliest person on the phone (as though I was holding her back from doing something more important). I ordered the "usual" - 2 happy hour tapas crab cakes, 1 order of the tuna tartar, paella easy on salt, and this time ordered the Lentil Walnut Veggie burger. The crab cakes were a 1/3 of the size of the ones we got when we actually ate at the location! It was unbelievably insulting. The paella was half the size as well. It also had no mention of having sausage in it on the menu and there I was, staring at a few pieces. The burger came with soggy "fries." I only went through half the order and called them back to note the size discrepancy. The waitress insisted it's all the same size and the tapas are the happy hour size. I reassured her that we've ordered the EXACT same thing all summer long and I know what size everything comes in. She kept insisting that I was incorrect and she doesn't know what to tell me....great customer service there. Yes, I'm wrong, although I only come to your location for those items. You are right...because you apparently don't want my money ever again. Thanks for being so helpful! Decent food, not worth the attitude you may get.

that bartender sure thinks he's something special. no one told him he's not as rich as the customers. never met a ruder bartender in my entire life! he's got a big mouth and he's very judgmental.I seriously don't know how this place makes any money with him behind the bar. I've heard other bartenders who know him around town say the same thing. if there's one thing I can't stand is bartenders who think there really something special. hey pour the booze and shut up.

The tuna tartar is what keeps drawing me back. I usually just make a meal from a few of their fantastic appetizers. Was disappointed with the seafood soup on my last visit. The menu claimed it to have shrimp & calamari yet there was neither. Maybe I just got bad ladleful.

I met my mother here for dinner at 5pm on a Thursday evening. No wait! Coming from Chicago where there's a wait for *everything*, it was a pleasant change. Mama and I got a seat right next to the window so we could enjoy the beautiful weather. Apparently, there's live music also. I'm glad we escaped before it started. Cabs is a small place, and those speakers are powerful. Normal dinner conversation would have been overwhelmed very easily. Cabs offers 5$ happy hour small plates- and my newly-Paleo mother and I ravaged it. WooHoo, MEAT! We ordered: * Blueberry-BBQ Short Ribs- Ooo, saucy. Just. Awesome. * Australian Lamb Chop- served with red pepper sauce. * Gazpacho w/ Shrimp & Crouton- one shrimp per cup. But in its defense, it *does* use the singular. * Tuna Tartare- okay, maybe not so delicious. Served on slightly oily fried tortillas. In addition to the small plates, we each ordered an entree. (The same entree, but with different cheeses.) In a show of solidarity with my mom and her new diet restrictions, I chose a (bunless) "Hanger" burger: Grilled & Topped with Onion Marmalade, Bacon, Arugula, and Cheddar Cheese and asked for the sweet potato fries. Cooked as rare as they would let me have it, the burger was satisfying. The sweet potato fries came out hot enough to burn my face as I tried to stuff myself with them, which I actually consider a good thing. Lo and Behold, they're gluten free as well! (Honestly, a little disappointing: I'd intended to "volunteer" to eat my mother's fries..) They were tossed in a lightly salty spice blend before being served. My *only* little gripe with the dinner was my drink- I ordered a Whiskey Old-Fashioned. It came with crushed ice. Yeah... first world problems. Mom, on the other hand, loved her Hirschbach Sohne Riesling. For anyone trying to be low-cal, gluten-free, Paleo, or any of the recent permutations of the newest "it" diet... Cab's will accommodate you. Go there. Eat food. Be happy.

I ve had dinner here once, appetizers twice, and drinks about four times since moving to the area. This is probably the best place in town. Wine selection and food are excellent and it's the one place I don't feel like an outsider. I have noticed that the glen ellyn-Wheaton area is very cliquey, which is a big factor in my placing my condo up for sale...

We had one of the worst experiences ever. It took about 15 minutes after we sat down to even be acknowledged by our waitress and even longer to get our drinks. The food was horribly mediocre and took forever. The worst part? The cockroach I saw scurrying up the wall next to me. I informed our waitress who apologized but didn't seem to care. Another waitress stamped it with her foot on the wall to kill it! We were mortified. We never got a visit from the manager after all of this which is reprehensible. The only consolation prize was one glass of wine taken off the bill. Gee thanks.

We go to cabs fairly often. If you can't tell from their name, they have an excellent wine selection. They are always happy to make suggestions based on your preferences. The food is wonderful. Their fresh bread comes with a great little olive spread that we love. They have many unique dishes, and ever changing specials. We have never been disappointed by the food. We always like to get adventurous with some of their more exotic items. I only downgrade a star because with the bar right in the middle of the dining area, and the high tin ceiling,, it can get quite loud. We made the mistake of going later on a Saturday night, and the noise and crowd standing at the bar made for a rather less-than-romantic evening. But knowing that, we come earlier and on off nights and have no issues. My recommendation: Try it, you might be pleasantly surprised!

Another Vino Van Gogh event under my belt...I am definitely channeling my inner ar-teest lately. I didn't order any of the food so I can't comment on that, but Cab's is definitely a cute place. Our event was held in the loft space which had me wondering if there was an elevator that I just didn't see (??). What if someone came to paint who had a handicap that prohibited them from climbing the staircase? Anyways, I do want to point out that we had a dedicated server and she was excellent. Came by taking drink orders and was very prompt. They also brought everyone water with lime and kept replenishing those as well. The loft space is positioned directly above the kitchen and the aromas were mouth watering. I think I might have to give this place a try sometime. There is also a nice sized, free parking lot just a few steps away.

My girlfriends and I bought a wine tasting experience off living social for cabs and for whatever reason it was cancelled. We showed up and were so disappointed but Lisa and Luis made our night so wonderful! The hospitality that we were shown was out of this world. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a lovely evening tasting cabernets and pinot noirs and the food was phenomenal. Luis is certainly a skilled chef and Lisa was so warm and accommodating. I live in Glen Ellyn but had never visited Cab's before. One thing is for sure- I will be back. Fabulous food and drink and great atmosphere.

I'm thinking between 3 and 4 stars. Cab's Wine Bar Bistro wasn't bad,but it wasn't amazing.Wanted it to be 5 stars, especially after reading all the great reviews. Overall, good atmosphere, can get pretty loud during busy times. Don't be afraid to sit at the bar, because not only do you have to usually wait longer for a table. Some of the food was a hit or miss. My chicken was outstanding. Lightly crispy, quite tender, and when paired with the mushrooms and cream sauce. My husband is not a "steak boy", but he said it was amazing. He had a garlic butter to spread on it, and a little went a long way. So, so good. We also had a glass of wine each, which was just OK. We'll come back to try the diffrent food from the menu, since the restaurant is close to our house.

I found this business on Yelp, while looking for a new place that would be gluten free friendly to take my daughter. Everything that we had was delicious, the service was great and the wine was a very good suggestion by our waitress. We will be back- you can't go wrong here and they cater to all dietary needs without batting an eyelash. We left just as the music was starting, so I can't give any review on that part of the evening, but next time maybe we will be able to stay.

Was here just this past Thursday to see the Twangtown Paramours perform...which is always a good show! Cab's does book great music! I loved the cream of asparagus soup! The bread seemed to be better than previous visits and we gobbled up the new bruschetta type side that accompanied the bread, so much so that we didn't have an appetite for the entrees we had in mind! We also filled up on cocktails! Our server, Emily, was adorable and on point all night...even though we didn't end up eating anything after the bowl of soup, I wasn't between cocktails for too long. Thanks Emily! And thanks to Chef Luis and his Wife Lisa, the atmosphere at Cab's is relaxing and inviting and the food is still great. I will eat less bread and more real food on my next visit. ;)

Went here on a Saturday night. The place was very busy, but I loved the environment and general vibes. There was the perfect amount of noise, lighting, and excitement. Order a "French kiss martini" that was okay. Also ordered the salmon flatbread, but it was just a bit too spicy for my taste. That's more of a personal opinion though - it was prepared wonderfully, but my date's dinner was also just okay. The hostess made the evening though. She was so pleasant in the beginning and as we left was just so nice! It made us want to return and hopefully try some different dishes.

Great restaurant in the suberbs. The bartender was our server. He was hliarious. He had recently shaved some crazy design in his hair for a type of cancer charity. Really cool guy. The food and drink was great. We were seated right by the window which provided a more quite and romantic setting. We need to go back to see what cab's has up there sleeve at the moment.

I don't know what everyone else was eating? Their prices are very much out of line with the food being served. I had the shrimp and cork screw pasta. I haven't seen this type of noodle in a restaurant in quite some time. But that doesn't really matter. As I smelled the dish coming before I saw it. The shrimp were big and very over cooked. No doubt to cover up the fishy smell. It came with a salad that was pretty wilted and DOA. My friend had a salad as an entree and it was the same size as mine. But he was charged $12 bucks not including the cost of the cardboard cut out chicken strips. The band was great though. I would come back to see the Twangtown Paramours. Just hit up the White Castle on your way.

It is q decent place, not sure I am going to rush right back but the food is good, the restaurant is very casual inside. We actually rode our bikes along the prairie path from Lombard to the restaurant and then had dinner. Service was quick and responsive they all just wear regular street clothes which I found a little odd. We had 2 appetizers and a salad and a glass of wine total bill was just under $50... a little pricey but so it is.

I've eaten here plenty of times, and I can't say that I've ever been disappointed. My husband and I had our wedding reception here as well, it was small with about 50 people and they accommodated us with exactly what we needed. Decent wine selection, small but tasty menu, and an excellent wait-staff. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The escargot is definitely my favorite appetizer and the green bean goat cheese salad is just as delicious!

I recently joined a large group of friends for dinner and to see a two-piece band, the Twangtown Paramours. This is the first time I've dined at Cab's. They accommodated our large group nicely. The service was prompt and fast but the food is a little disappointing. I ordered a Chicken Cesar Salad as my entree which was just slightly bigger than a small dinner salad and it was priced at $12 which was out of line. I will say they have decent wine specials. I will return for wine and music but will definitely dine elsewhere beforehand.

Loathe this place! The bartender is pretentious and seems to only like people he knows (the same review from someone else, too!). The food is nothing to scream about at all and way overpriced! Go to French Quarter in Lombard for a much better experience! UGH!! CAB'S IS NOT FRENCH!

My sister and brother-in-law who are Glen Ellyn residents brought me, my boyfriend, and the rest of the fam here on a Saturday night and we all LOVED IT :) We all split the fried calamari and crab cakes as an appetizer (both were awesome). I ordered the seared halibut over some rice and veggies (a seasonal special) and my brother-in-law ordered the grilled mahi-mahi with asparagus over some mashed potatoes (also a season special). We realized half way through scarfing down our amazing entrees that the waitress had switched them but we had both been too hungry to notice. To correct the matter, part way through our supper we switched the meals back, so I got to try both :) Each dish was so phenomenal that we didn't even care about the mistake. We just took the mix-up as a sign from the gods that we must try both dishes ;) My boyfriend got a regular menu item. I think one of the seafood concoctions. He let me try one of his tasty little scallops and they were mouth watering!! Even though we were all happy and stuffed we ordered dessert (phew...good thing I watched my diet over the week). Four of us split the chocolate cake and I got to try my dad's fruit cobbler. Both were excellent, but I personally preferred the cobbler w/ ice cream :) The only thing I wasn't super crazy about here was my Riesling, but I can't hold that against them b/c I know nothing about wine or their proper pairings...next time I think I will ask for a suggestion.... Also, two thumbs up for service (even with the entree switch). It was a busy night and our waitress was still pretty attentive :)

I've said it once and I'll say it again...this place ONLY caters to regulars. If you're not a regular, you're ignored. I have been to Paris and the food here can't hold a candle to Paris! Read some of the other reviews to notice that the ones who LOVE this place are regulars. Go elsewhere! The price isn't worth the food or the service!

Fine dining at its best with an argentinian flair. Warm, friendly & inviting - Cab's does gourmet comfort food! The food is beautiful, tasty, and served in an elegant, quaint and friendly environment. Fell in love with this place years ago when we first moved to Glen Ellyn and love it still!

My wife and I ate at Cab's Wine Bar and Bistro for dinner tonight and we both found it quite good. Delicious in fact. Service was very friendly without being overly attentive. One of the owners ( a husband and wife team) chatted with us a few times before, during and after the meal and thanked us for coming in. (How often does that happen?) Thursday evenings they have live music and it was both tasteful and not too loud to talk over. They started us with some bread and a homemade bruschetta that was very tasty. We had the Smoked Salmon flat bread as an appetizer and the Pan Seared Pork Tenderloin Medallions for the main course. We also got a tasting flight of Mixed Red's. All of it was delicious and we will certainly to go back. Price the above was $50.00

This place was ok. The other reviews got my hopes up. It's a very small place, on Main Street in Glen Ellyn. There is a parking lot to the south which is where you need to park unless you get lucky and find a spot on the street. As far as inside goes, think long and narrow with tables on your left up against the wall and the bar on your right separated by a fence-like contraption made of wood a wire. Although they have wood floors, it's pretty quiet in here except for the noisy people at the bar. There was a "bigmouth blondie" who was talking SO LOUD it was really annoying. The food here was ok, but took really long to get. We had 2 appetizers, calamari and wild mushrooms. They were good and so was the wine we had with it. Then when it came time for an entree, I held out since I wanted dessert. Hubby ordered crab cakes which took about 25 minutes to get. They weren't busy and when you're paying $10 an hour to a babysitter, that seems kind of long. Anyway, the crab cakes weren't seasoned much at all and they were thermonuclear. I like my food hot, but this seemed like microwave hot. After he was finished eating, we waited and waited and finally I flagged down another server and asked her to find our server. I got my cake and it was a pretty skimpy slice. I don't like those huge desserts, but this was the "I'm on a diet slice". I skipped my entree for this??? So we were there for about 1.5 hours and it was ok. Just another place on the list that you can go to.

We had a decent dinner at Cab's last night with another couple. Unfortunately our initial encounter there was not the best.....the hostess was very scattered and ineffectual and quite flustered. We had 7:30 reservations and they tried to seat us at a table in the back and up a flight of stairs, sandwiched between two large parties, one of which contained a hideously loud cackling woman. We asked for another table and I happened to spot a 4-top just opening up downstairs. Anyway...we eventually were seated at the better table. But really...we shouldn't have had to jump through hoops like that. Bottom line: Front of the House = FAIL! Our server was a bit better. Friendly, laid back. Got the job done. Kitchen cranked out some decent food, although lacking in any sort of presentation. I felt as if I was eating at someone's home, and not a restaurant. Keep in mind, this is not necessarily a bad thing, but when one is shelling out $$$...you expect things to be a bit more "professional." I had the beet salad and then the scallop appetizer for dinner, washed down with a glass of sauvignon blanc (decent pour size...could have been a bit more chilled)...our friends had steak and shoe string potatoes and my husband had the paella. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The atmosphere is lively and I really enjoyed the live music that came on around 9:00. Bottom line...think this is a place I would return for drinks and appetizers with friends. Hear some live music and kick back. As with all neighborhood joints...I wish them all the success in the world. It's a brutal biz and I always like to support the little guys. Cheers :)

We have dined here several times now and have never been disappointed. The service is fast, fun and a little fresh. The food, on the other hand is very fresh, innovative and paired with the perfect wine everytime. Worth a drive if you live in the city or Noth Suburbs as we do.

Cab's in is in downtown Glen Ellyn conveniently located not far from a public parking lot. I'm assuming it's in one of the original downtown buildings because the restaurant space is long and narrow and the ceiling is covered with tin (original?) tiles. The walls are painted a sunny yellow and the floors are of wood. Overall it's a comfortable space. The one oddity in the decor is the railing around the bar which isn't much more attractive than a wood and chicken-wire fence and reminded me of the same. While we were eating, one of the customers knocked her wine off this railing and onto the floor next to our table, splattering my husband some and just missing me. The staff checked on us and apologized but didn't strike me as too concerned. I ordered a roasted duck breast with mixed potatoes (sweet, russet, and red I believe), braised cabbage, and roasted asparagus. Everything arrived in a pile on my plate with the sauce for the duck freely mixing with the braised cabbage juices and completely smothering the potatoes. It was kind of a mess. The roasted asparagus was perfectly cooked. The duck itself was delicious having crispy skin and moist meat. However because the poor duck could not escape the plate of sauces and juices, after a few bites it became just another in a series of too many too sweet mouthfuls. By the end of the meal it seemed every bite tasted the same. We ordered the creme brulee with chocolate for dessert. It was very disappointing. It did not crack! Creme brulee must crack when you first breach it with your spoon. That is its finest moment. Apparently Cab's had refrigerated the creme brulee after caramelizing the top. In addition, the chocolate on the bottom was extremely hard and cold. If I'd had my wits about me, I would have sent the creme brulee back when I noticed the top was soft. Our waitress was friendly and was helpful when selecting the wine. I was surprised she did not seem more concerned about us after braving shards of glass and soggy creme brulee. I would have offered free dessert or coffee at least. Though it's nice to support a local business and not a chain, Cab's is overpriced for the quality of food they serve and their service. With the competition in the area, I would think this risky. I would consider returning for wine and appetizers as perhaps wine is where they shine. However, I'll spend my fine dining money elsewhere.

Excellent food! Ordered beer battered calimari to start. They serve with mashed potatoes. Kinda confused me at first, but it was the best calimari I've ever had. I had the paella as an entree. Everything was really good, but the chicken was just unseasoned, grilled chicken. Fiancee got pork tenderloin, which was a touch dry. Extensive wine selection. Building is a little drafty, but it's in an older building, so I don't fault them for it. Great atmosphere, great service. It is pricey, but with it. Will go back.

My girlfriend and I had a great meal. She had duck, with cabbage and potatoes. I had pork medallions in an orange sauce, potatoes, and fried green beans. The owner greated us at the door. Service was prompt and server very friendly.

I had a great meal here. The menu was very eclectic, and I ordered a sausage and mushroom risotto which was creamy and delicious. The service was fantastic - maybe due to the fact that most of the staff knew my friend, but fantastic regardless. We had the calamari appetizer which came with mashed potatoes (!) and a balsamic sauce - super duper yum. The waiter also gave us fried green beans because I had mentioned that those sounded awesome. And awesome, they were. The desserts looked great, but I was wayyy too full of deliciousness to try. Thanks!

Fantastic food! Cab's is such a great destination! If you are lucky enough to be there in the winter when the chef offers his Cassoulet (the best I've ever had... here or in France), or even one of his specials (the BBQ Korean Pork w/ Kimchi Taco's -- unbelievably great ) you'll always get great food. Very friendly, attentive service. It's a MUST VISIT.

I love this place. I have been there twice and it is fantastic. The atmosphere is very intimate and lively. The staff is always happy to explain a menu item, make recommendations and constantly looking to satisfy. The wine selection is outstanding. I'd recommend this for a nice dinner out for a special occasion or just to get out.

cab's used to be my dad's go to place. before he met his future bride, he would take a different lady from yahoo personals here at least 3-4 times a week! this place is perferct for that kind of thing, as it's very small and intimate, and the owners are super friendly (picture my dad schmoozing the ladies with plenty of "i know the owners here" type stuff. PLAYA PLAYA)! side note: this is also where he proposed! anyway, i've had dinner here a few times over the years, and the food is always superb. fairly reasonable prices for the quality, above average drink selection (i'm not a wine person, but they have some nice whiskey and tequila), and great service in a cozy little space. but what i just learned this weekend is that they have live music on the weekends after regular dinner hours. and guess who just happened to book a show here? none other than my homies, Clifton Roy & Folkstringer! it was a great, intimate venue for a show, and we had an awesome time sipping drinks and relaxing. finally, they have some great artwork in here! almost all of it is for sale, and the standouts for me were the fresh oils of rock legends upstairs(jimi hendrix and johnny ramone were sweet), and the jazz series done by the owner's brother. check this place out!

Love it, love it, love it! Went here with the husband because I am a huge fan of wine flights. I got the "other whites" which had 3 great wines. We split the charcuterie, the cheese plate special, and the duck pate. It was sooooo good. Probably some of the best pate I've ever had. The service was great and we weren't rushed at all. I will definitely come back and order an entree and more of the pate!

I came to Cabs with a friend later in the evening to have a glass of wine or 2... they had a live band playing, and my only complaint is that the band was super loud for the small space, but the atmosphere of the whole place was great! the wine we had was also really good. I would love to come back for dinner on night where they don't have a band playing.

We've been to this place twice now and all I can say is, it is WONDERFUL! The chef is a genius. An interesting menu and everything is prepared and seasoned to perfection. The wait staff is not only friendly but very helpful. The only reason I hesitate to give it such a good rating is, I don't want it to get so popular that it's hard to get a table when we go there. But they deserve all of the business they get and I hope they're there for a long time to come! It is a little bit on the pricey side but in this case you definitely get what you pay for! I HIGHLY recommend it!

Most romantic spot we know... The Paella is my dish of choice. The wife leans towards the ever changing selection of game. She's had everything from Elk Loins to Kangaroo... The tuna tartar as a starter is a must.

Cab's is a quaint little restaurant with lots of personality and style. It is in downtown Glen Ellyn and if you did not already know, downtown Glen Ellyn is really growing and is really cool. The staff at Cab's was very friendly. They make you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. The wine selection is excellent. In fact the name, Cab's is short for Cabernet's. The menu is unique and fresh. The meal presentations are beautiful. Fish, chicken, beef, pork and KANGAROO. Yes I said Kangaroo. I had never seen Kangaroo on a menu before. At first I thought it was a joke, but no mates it was Roo on the barbie straight from Down Under. One of my dinner companions was even brave enough to order it. I tasted it and to me it tasted of wheat. Yup, some sort of wheat type product. Who knew? Needless to say, I will not be eating Kangaroo again anytime soon, however I would for sure eat at Cab's again in the near future. It was a great dining experience. Innovative menu delicious food friendly staff good service KANGAROO what is not to love?

I'm a big fan of Cab's. Even if it didn't serve good food (I like the crab cakes, salads, and fish dishes), I'd still like it for the fact that unlike so many places in the Western suburbs, they don't start mopping the floor, turning the lights up, and stacking chairs when it's about 9 p.m. You can just sit, enjoy your meal, and chat while regulars (think a dressed up "Cheers," seriously) wander in to sit with their friends late into the evening. They have a great wine list and last time I went I couldn't decide what to order and the very friendly and patient waitress brought me tastes of 2 or 3 chardonnays until I happened on the one I liked. I like the artwork, the cozy feel, and everything I've ever ordered there has been very good. I wish there were a few more seafood and/or vegetarian options, but I do have friends who like to go for some of the odd/exotic meat dishes they serve.

Had a fantastic meal there last night. Not only was the food outstanding, but the waiter gave everyone in our part a free glass of wine because due to a large party the food was taking longer than usual. (we never even complained and in reality it didn't bother us) Just a very nice gesture that shows they really care that their customers have a positive experience dining there. I had the crab cakes, my wife had the risotto, and our friend had the salmon. We all loved our meal. A great restaurant to get away from the suburban chains. Can't wait to go back!

the best little spot in the whole darn town to get your eat on. the wine list is very reasonable and quite extensive. the entrees are exquisite and unique (i had the pork glazed with apricots and jalapenos). as far as presentations are concerned, it's nothing outstanding, but the taste makes me forget the lack of creativity. i will be going back very very soon! fyi: make reservations on the weekend, this place is tiny!

great place to hang out and enjoy some wine and apps, or stay for a very good entree. it's a very honest place, with no pretense, straightforward ingredients, and a solid wine list. the owners are there most nights, and are very concerned for the patrons enjoyment. one night, the chef even came out and gave me a few cooking tips, and bought me a glass of wine (that i sure didnt need :) overall, i highly recommend it, i think it blows away whatever that place is called across the street for a full service dining experience.

I really wanted to like this place. We originally set out to grab a few drinks at a neighboring bar but decided not to wait an hour for a table at Fire & Wine, so when we entered Cabs we were thrilled to see we could be seated immediately. The hostess was exceptionally pleasant and friendly. The waitress was also nice enough. But the food and service was poor and confusing. As soon as we were seated, a small dish of oil and vegetables were set at the table. It was obviously meant to accompany bread, but no bread was to be found. The waitress told us someone else would bring it shortly and we went ahead and ordered two different flights which featured bold reds and Pinot Noir. When the wines arrived about 10 minutes later (oddly served actually warm and not at the appropriate room temp) we had to ask about the bread again. We also ordered 'cheese curds', which tasted like fried fried. That's right - fried fried. There was no other discernible flavor other than 'fried'. I give this place three stars: 1) pleasant staff, 2) quick accommodation and 3) clean restaurant and bar. I'd likely go in again for a quick cold beverage when the neighboring bars were overcrowded, and I'd wearily attempt another dining experience, but I'd definitely pass on the cheese curds.

POOR service. Very awkward and disjointed except for the bussing staff-was excellent other than an empty beer bottle and glass that sat in the middle of the table the entire visit. Was asked what we ordered for appetizers FOUR separate times about 30 minutes after initially ordering them. A table seated across from us ordered much later than we did and was served much before we were - just plain BAD! Food was great but they should place a bread basket on the table rather than serving individual pieces. Why include a section on their website for reservations for a "special occasion" and then make no effort to at least greet a member of our party happy birthday when it is obvious that is the occasion (i.e. gifts and cards on the table) AND I noted that on the reservation. Cab's charges for high end prices but our experience with the service is comparable to a visit at a low performing McDonald's. We will NOT be back.

I LOVE Cab's. It's right across the street from Fire + Wine, or Flour + Wine, whatever that place is calling itself these days. And there is ALWAYS people waiting outside for that place. And I have no idea why, because the menu at Cab's is SO MUCH BETTER. Maybe it's not as family friendly. But their menu is diverse and amazing. Maybe that's it, maybe people only want to eat boring foods like you can find across the street and Fire/Flour + Wine. At Cab's, I've had the tacos, the cheese plates, the flatbread, one of the seafood dishes and have never been disappointed. The bread and spread they serve when you are seated is delicious. Great wine list too. I like the ambiance of this place. The decor is unique like the menu. We've always had great service here. I'm surprised to see reviews that the service wasn't good. I've honestly never ever had this issue, even on weekends during busier times. Truly. Try Cab's. I hope you like it.

My friend and I had an early dinner at Fire + Wine across the street and had some time to kill before seeing a movie. We decided to head over to this place for a drink...or in this case, a wine flight. At 6ish pm there was no wait for dinner, though the place wasn't exactly 'dead'. We grabbed a seat at the bar which had a few seats available. Our service was quick, and friendly. We browsed the menu because we like trying new places and this place seemed right up our alley! They have a nice menu with a lot of great things on it so we definitely plan on coming back soon for dinner. While enjoying our flights of wine we decided to share a SECOND dessert...it's Christmas time, so tis the season...for calories!!!! We split a slice of cheesecake which was on top of both a mango and strawberry sauce. One of the servers told us all their desserts are great, and homemade. It was A-mazing!!! Based on all this... we WILL return. I cannot wait to come back here for dinner!

This review is for the bar only, as we haven't eaten here yet. Saturday's around 7pm for the red wine. Friendly service from the bartenders and low key environment that lets you have a nice quiet conversation. 1 TV on the wall playing sports and a skylight for the natural light. The music playing is Pandora - Michael Bubble. The wine selection is small and needs more, really don't feel the wine menu matches the name Cab's (which makes me think of Cabernet). The smell of fish throughout the bar could have something to do with the kitchen exhaust and the interior needs a redesign, get rid of the yellow paint and add dark wood trim throughout.

Cab's wasn't where I intended to go with family. But far from being a second choice, Cab's is a go-to destination in Glen Ellyn. Our group had quite a few things. We ordered grilled brie with apricot sauce. Because grilling cheese is a thing, I guess? Happily, the brie was soft, and the sweet sauce went perfect with mild flavor of the brie. A crunchy almond topping helped provide some more variety to the appetizer. I ordered a lamb burger, medium, on the premise that lamb is healthier than beef. (I really doubt that it is.) I should eat lamb more often; it *was* lighter than the beef overall, yet still very flavorful. The onion marmalade contributed a bit of sweetness, while the arugula contributed earthiness. It's topped with a Vermont feta, I believe, which provides creaminess in lieu of mayo. The burger runs $14, and this one was worth every cent. On the side were the best sweet potato french fries I've ever had, largely on the strength of being lightly breaded in a thin batter that had hints of cinnamon sugar in it. This was a great idea, and went really well with the burger. For dessert we all split a cheesecake, served with an ice cream scoop-sized amount of freshly whipped cream. I think some raspberry sauce was poured all over it. The texture of the cheesecake was a hit; much lighter than your usual Chicago-style cheesecake, not at all dense. Considering that my stomach was about to explode, I appreciated this. Cab's is a great destination for a nice date, without completely bankrupting you. The food looks good, the flavors are distinct and well thought-out, and the textures are spot-on. I couldn't be happier, and would enjoy a return visit.

I'm shocked I never reviewed this place. That makes it sad, that on this day, after all of these years, when I became its "Duchess," that I have to say this... It's not a good sign when over and over at the bar you see the flashing lights of the devices calling people to their now-ready tables. And they go.................across the street. Fire & Wine is rocking and SO crowded that their overflow finds themselves at Cab's, occasionally staying for dinner. That's how I've found myself dining at Cab's these past few times...by default. This was my favorite place for years. The cheese flight? Delicious! The meals? Amazing. The bar seems to be a real favorite with the locals. It's common to see them drift in from the trains in the early evenings. It's been a narrow, interesting space that regrettably has grown stale and a bit splattered and dingy. They had a near miss with a fear of closing earlier this year but found an investor who saved the day...so it seemed. It's a ghost. A shadow of what it was. A restaurant past its glory days surviving on the scraps that won't wait for a table at Fire & Wine. It's not that the food quality has so dropped but its tired. More limited. No energy. I looked around and all I saw were old folks...and yes, I'm nearly one of them, but not so far along and not so bored that I'm willing to go to a place that's merely going through the motions. I mean honestly...you're to pay $20-25 a plate at a wine bar and find a bowl of Dum-Dum suckers at the hostess station? Uh...thanks? No thanks. Cab's was great but now it's done. Wait for your table at Fire & Wine. It's worth it. Alternatives would be Made in Italy Trattoria (yummy and SO welcoming) or Bistro Monet right on the tracks. Pricey, but delicious!

Everything was perfect. Our waitress, Katie, was delightful and incredibly helpful. The food was outstanding. In fact at one point my wife actually said "I don't want this meal to end." She had the walnut and lentil burger, which, as a certified carnivore, I have to admit was delicious. My grilled seafood combo was also delicious and just enough to fill me up. It comes with a delicious sauce and mashed potatoes that pair well. The decor is funky, eclectic, shabby, classy although I understand a remodel is coming soon. Highly recommended.

Came in for dinner on a Thursday with the wife. I couldn't believe how dead it was. Then a lame older guy with a guitar was playing and he was not good.

We showed up and were so disappointed but Lisa and Luis made our night so wonderful! The hospitality that we were shown was out of this world. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a lovely evening tasting cabernets and pinot noirs and the food was phenomenal. Luis is certainly a skilled chef and Lisa was so warm and accommodating. I live in Glen Ellyn but had never visited Cab's before. One thing is for sure- I will be back. Fabulous food and drink and great atmosphere.

Outstanding bar menu. A choice of craft beers and Wines. I must say, if your looking to enjoy a good appetizer menu. Stop by and enjoy. They are all very good... You won't be disappointed! I guaranteed it!

This is a nice place. It looks good and the people are very nice. I don't like the food. I think it's mediocre at best. I've been there 2 times and I just really have no desire to go back. If I had friends that were going, I may go. I just have had a lot better. overall, they are okay. I guess it just depends what you like. It's not bad food by any means, it's just not great.

I will eat less bread and more real food on my next visit. ;)

We need to go back to see what cab's has up there sleeve at the moment.

that bartender sure thinks he's something special. no one told him he's not as rich as the customers. never met a ruder bartender in my entire life! he's got a big mouth and he's very judgmental.I seriously don't know how this place makes any money with him behind the bar.

  • Steven M.

Had always loved this place, then had 2 really bad experiences & stopped going. Looks like I should try again.

Cab's is great! I think, enjoy your wine, enjoy your dinner, maybe have another glass of wine and skip dessert. It is a fun and charming atmosphere. Cheers!

great place to hang out and enjoy some wine and apps, or stay for a very good entree. it's a very honest place, with no pretense, straightforward ingredients, and a solid wine list. the owners are there most nights, and are very concerned for the patrons enjoyment. one night, the chef even came out and gave me a few cooking tips, and bought me a glass of wine (that i sure didnt need :) overall, i highly recommend it, i think it blows away whatever that place is called across the street for a full service dining experience.
